With a cleaner more expansive sound, Houses of The Holy, the fifth studio album from the British rock band originally released in March 1973, signified a stylistic turning point.

After recording in the Rolling Stones mobile studio during the recording process for their previous album (Led Zeppelin IV), the band took the studio to Headley Grange in Hampshire, UK where they recorded Houses of The Holy.  Guitarist, Jimmy Page and bassist/keyboardist, John Paul Jones installed home studios at their own homes which enabled them to arrive at Jagger’s home with full arrangments ready for recording.

The album was able to live up to the bands immense reputation that preceded them after previous commercial success.  The album received widespread critical acclaim receiving 5 star reviews from AllMusic and Rolling Stone despite its initially mixed reception.  The album is featured in various “Best Albums” lists including "The Definitive 200: Top 200 Albums of All-Time" from The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as well as Rolling Stone’s "The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time”
